Children come to Selamta Kids’ Center from government orphanages and unsafe living conditions. If it’s been determined that reunification to a child’s biological family or domestic adoption is not possible, the formation of a new Forever Family begins.
During their time at the Kids’ Center, our team is observing the growth of relationships between each of the kids and Selamta trained moms. Considering each person, their needs, and built relationships, our team determines who will be placed in families together. Once established, new families move into their own home, choose a family name, and start their life together.
8-10 kids and a Selamta trained mom come together to form a Forever Family
Forever Families grow together over a 10-20 year period
No child ages out, but rather launches into independence when they’re ready
All our Forever Family homes are located within one neighborhood in a suburb of Addis Ababa. Access to local schools, churches and markets encourages our families to play an integral part in their community.
Proximity to the Community Center and other Forever Families creates an expansive and diverse network of support. Each family has the wrap-around care of our professional staff within walking distance and the camaraderie of neighboring Forever Families who share their lived experience. It’s an extended family of brothers and sisters, moms and aunts, who are always there.
This rich environment allows our families to develop lasting relationships. Growing up in a stable home surrounded with the love of a healthy family gives children a strong sense of belonging and hope.
